CONFESSIONAL JUKEBOX

Confessional Jukebox is metaphor and ritual.
An public exorcism of our collective emotions through sound, movement, exchange and improvisation.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was a collaboration with Trevor Jahner for Sou'Wester Arts Week.
For this piece, we constructed a confessional booth (below) and installed in our performance space to collect confessions, pains, secrets and regrets from the public and fellow artists throughout the week using a voice activated recording device.

From these recordings we isolated 13 separate emotions then choreographed 13 somatic "exorcisms" which we performed publicly at the end of the week.

The recordings we gathered throughout the week were altered and layered to create an audio backdrop for our performance.

DEATHWEAVE

Weaving for Arts Week
Weaving process
Burn at the beach
DEATHWEAVE: An interactive process of re-contextualizing our relationship to death
on a personal and cultural level.

Over the course of the week, we constructed a cocoon-like structure then invited resident artists and the public to engage in a meditation on loss, transformation and celebration of the present through writing and the physical act of weaving.

At the end of the week, the eve of Spring equinox, we walked in a procession
out to the beach.
We quietly set our intentions for healing before burning the structure as a process of letting go of our attachments and calling in our intentions for the upcoming Spring.

This interactive installation was a collaborative piece that took place during Sou'Wester ARTS WEEK in Seaview WA March 2023.

A collaboration between Gino M. Kline, Portland OR and Frankie Darling, Tacoma WA

Weaving “teaches us that where there are places of loss, where the weft is interrupted, and there is a hole in the fabric of our lives, that fabric is still strong... In our woven lives, the empty spaces are the very places where we can see with new eyes, where we can look behind the day-to-day for a moment to see our deeper truths within."

Uncomfortable Club Happy Hour - a free monthly event at local venue Turn! Turn! Turn! in Portland, OR.
A group improv game intended to spark creativity, brain flexibility and resilience in the spirit of play.

This event emerged from 52 prompts I created for an interactive art piece and installation I created during a week long residency at the WA Coast for Sou'Wester Arts week - The Resiliency Dome (see below)

How Does it work?
The deck contains 52 prompts divided into 4 categories:
VOICE / HANDS / BODY / WILD (a combo of any/all 3)
We all sit in a circle.
Each person takes a turn choosing one card from each category sitting in the middle of the circle. They read the prompt aloud and then the group performs each exercise for approx. 30-60 seconds.

I'm currently working on making this deck available for purchase

Some examples of prompts from the deck:

Uncomfortable Club Resilency Dome
RESILIENCY DOME: An interactive experience of sound, shape, writing and movement.

This installation took place inside of a Geodesic Dome during Sou'Wester ARTS WEEK in Seaview WA March 2022. Participants (as a group) interacted with 11 origami "chatterboxes" containing various prompts inside of them.

Everyone respond the the prompt as a group.

4 Categories: Hands/Voice/Body/Wild (combination)
52 Prompts
30-60 second group activity

These low s
takes group-improv exercises were designed to spark creativity and brain flexibility in the spirit of PLAY in the form of group movement, sound, writing &/or drawing.

This piece has became the catalyst for a deck of cards and Uncomfortable Club Happy Hour - A monthly event at a local venue in Portland, OR.  Free & All Ages

A conceptual scavenger hunt exploring the duality of self,
the liminal space between internal/external, thought/action.
Together, let us cumulatively gather the pieces of our collective landscape.
When we choose to be both the artist and audience in our day to day lives, we give ourselves (and others) the ultimate gift of curiosity and intention.

VIRTUAL BINGO ART PARTY FUNDRAISER

VIRTUAL BINGO ART PARTY FUNDRAISER

This was a project that started with a stack of bingo cards that I found at an estate sale.
Every day for one month I completed one collage or an ink drawing on a single card for fun.

Since Covid had shut down all the First Friday Art events at my shop xobruno, I decided to host a Virtual Bingo Art Party with the remaining bingo cards as a fundraiser for The Bail Project and Black United Fund of Oregon on Intagram.
I mailed 20 blank cards out to artists with a self addressed stamped envelopes.
Once I received the finished cards, I posted individual photos on IG for the public to bid on.
It was a delightful project that brought some levity during quarantine (and we raised $1K!)

ASK ME ANYTHING

Ask Me Anything Zine

ASK ME ANYTHING
During Arts Week I asked guests on the premises to submit any question in need of advice anonymously.
I chose my favorite questions and put together a 4x5.5" zine with as much advice as I could
fit in this cheeky little zine.
Inspired by an advice column by Cookie Mueller called "Ask Dr. Mueller" written in the early 80's for the East Village Eye.
She was a punk, a diva, an actress, an iconoclast, a mom, a writer and a poet.
She was not, however, a Doctor.

STATIC PASSENGER

Static Passenger
I FEAR THAT I AM.................
STATIC PASSENGER - A satirical performance piece written, choreographed and performed by Gino M. Kline and Nick Bindeman.

Using the body, sound and live video, we explored ideas of cognitive dissonance and our impulse to normalize ideas that are in opposition to our core values and instincts. This performance used satire to explore fear and the human disposition towards cult/herd mentality, greed and hypocrisy.
How can we address real problems in the face of willful
 ignorance and denial of facts?

Music by Nick Bindeman
Live interactive video by Matthew Henderson
Additional performers: Sara Paradis, Kathleen Duffy, and William Rihel.

Performed during the final year of SPACENESS at Sou'Wester Lodge, Seaview WA, March 2019

HEADSPACE
A three part multi-media performance choreographed and performed by Gino M Kline and Shana Palmer Video by Shana Palmer. Music by Nick Bindeman and Warren Lee.
Performed at SPACENESS - A week long artist in residency in Seaview WA with performances and installations open to the public. March, 2017

A performance inspired by our separate and collective memories, how we are tied to those memories and in turn how they tie us to each other.
We explore memory as an illusion, and the vulnerability of memory through non-linear narratives using video, shadow, voice and body movement.
